Onyx 5 cp
Overview
Tentipi Nordic tipis are flexible and can be uniquely adapted to your needs. Our outer tents come with mosquito netting in the door and function excellently on their own. Instead of fixed accessories, you choose what to complement your tent with – such as a floor, inner tent and other functional add-ons.
The cotton/polyester canvas allows the fabric to breathe, reducing condensation even without an inner tent. For extra protection against insects and ground moisture, you can add a floor or an inner tent.
Our tents can be used with both a stove and an open fire. The Eldfell 5 Pro stove or Hekla 7 fire box provides cosy warmth and the opportunity to cook inside the tent. Comfort and Pro floors/inner tents have openings that allow you to place a fire pit directly on bare ground. The Base inner tent, however, does not have floor openings and is best suited for situations where maximum protection against hazardous insects is needed – but in that case, you won’t be able to make a fire inside the tent.
Our intention with Onyx was a Nordic tipi for less ambitious purposes or when low weight is a priority. We managed to reduce the price considerably but our customers don’t always think “less ambitious” – some use it in the most demanding circumstances. The unexpected functionality and durability means that even our basic model of Onyx is a very advanced tent.

Approximately 275 g/m²
Strong and well-ventilating cotton/polyester fabric which gives an indoor climate far superior to that of a tent made of any kind of coated fabric. The fabric has a natural feel, and its beige-brown colour creates a warm, pleasant atmosphere in the Nordic tipi. Fades rapidly in the sun but without losing strength. Mildew prevention.

The Onyx family
By compromising a little on our stringent material requirements and by compensating with clever adjustments in the design, we have managed to create a reasonably-priced tent that is very durable and which we and our customers are very satisfied with. One of the ways to reduce weight and price is to take away certain features, without compromising on quality. Onyx combines the best characteristics of an ordinary tent with the unique traits of a Nordic tipi. For example, it has a simplified version of the indoor ventilation adjustment system that is standard on our more expensive models.
Easy to handle, ample space, allows socialising around a cosy fire in the centre - this Nordic tipi is so much more than just a tent. The unexpected functionality and durability means that even our basic model of Onyx is a very advanced tent.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can I use a stove inside the Onyx tent?
Yes. Most Tentipi tents are designed for safe stove use. On Onyx models, the chimney of Eldfell stove can be fitted through the smoke opening when the ventilator cap is opened, since Onyx does not have the integrated chimney opening like Safir and Zirkon.
Is the tent suitable for winter camping?
Yes. With proper ventilation and an internal heat source, they can remain comfortable even at low temperatures. Tentipi tents are built for year-round use and can handle demanding winter conditions.
How long does it take to pitch a tent like the Onyx model?
All our models share the same technique. The central pole construction makes assembly quick and straightforward, even in harsh conditions. Once familiar with the setup, it can be pitched in 3–10 minutes.
Can I make an open fire on the ground inside the tent?
Yes. The tent can be used with a stove or an open fire. For safety reasons, a ground fire is not recommended, use our Hekla firebox.
Can the tent withstand strong winds?
Yes. The symmetrical shape and low centre of gravity makes our Nordic tipis more secure in high and gusty winds than most other tent designs. The storm cords are normally not needed, but in severe weather they are recommended for added security.
What accessories are recommended?
Common accessories include stoves, floors, inner tent. Our porches and canopies adapt to Onyx with the help of the Accessory connector.
